Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a viral infection which affects liver. It can occur in both acute and chronic form.

Untreated viral hepatitis b can cause liver cirrhosis even it can cause HCC without cirrhosis

Transmission routes

  • Vertical transmission : from infected mother to children
  • IV drug abuser
  • Transfusion of contaminated blood and blood products
  • Tattoos
  • Hemodialysis

Clinical features

  • Fatigue
  • Constitutional symptoms such as poor appetite , malaise
  • Liver failure

Diagnosis

  • Liver function test – AST and ALT are raised
  • Positive HBsAg and Ig M anti HBc
  • HBV DNA

Treatement

  • Drugs are approved for treatment of viral hepatitis
