What is colonoscopy ?
Colonoscopy is a procedure in which flexible rubber tube with camera attached on one end is passed from anus to examine the large intestine and some part of small intestine .
It can be diagnostic and therapeutic.

Many people experience mild pain due to distension of bowel by carbon dioxide or air.
Not always but patient preferred in anaesthesia to avoid little pain or discomfort.
Colonoscopy is a short procedure which is completed in around 5-10 minutes.
6-8 hour of fasting is recommended . Patient are advised to take medicine atleast 6-8 hours before the procedure so patients large intestine gets cleared . With the medicine patients passes stool around 6 – 8 times.
Most of the time patient are advised to take regular medicine but few medicine like antiplatelet are stopped , it varies from patient to patient .
Few complication like bleeding , perforation, infection can occur but risk is low.

No biopsy is not painful because mucosal lining of upper gi tract doesn’t contain painful receptor.
Results generally get ready in 5 minutes . Endoscopy report gets ready immediately but biopsy results takes time.
If patient family require video than it can be provided on request otherwise images are provided in hard copy form.
No as patient is given anesthesia so driving is not recommended. It is always better to arrange someone to accompany you home.
