Endoscopy is a procedure in which flexible rubber tube is passed from mouth to small intestine
(duodenum) to analyze mucosa of esophagus , stomach and duodenum.
It can be diagnostic and therapeutic.

No . Few people experience little discomfort . Before starting the procedure local anaesthesia is given either using spray or losenges.
Not always , most patient get this procedure done in local anaesthesia but option of short anesthesia and local anaesthesia is explained to patient and proper consent taken before procedure.
Endoscopy is a short procedure which is completed in 2-5minutes.
6-8 hour of fasting is recommended . Patients are allowed to take clear liquid like water , coconut water 2hour before the procedure.
Most of the time patient are advised to take regular medicine but few medicine like antiplatelet are stopped , it varies from patient to patient .
Few complication like bleeding , perforation, infection can occur but risk is low.

No biopsy is not painful because mucosal lining of upper gi tract doesn’t contain painful receptor.
